Man to face trial in connection with burglary in Laois

Portlaoise District Court

A man has been sent forward for trial in connection with a burglary in Laois. 

Noel Byrne (28) of 23 Riverbank, Poachers Gate, Carlow, is accused of burglary and trespass at Elland Road, Shanrath, Wolfhill on October 14, 2025.

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the case should be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. 

Judge Susan Fay issued an alibi warning and ordered that the case be sent forward to Portlaoise Circuit Court sitting on February 17, 2026. 

She granted legal aid for one solicitor and one barrister and remanded the defendant in custody.
