Portlaoise District Court
A woman admitted obstructing Gardaí who were executing a search warrant at her address in Portlaoise.
Pamela McInerney (28) of 387 Market Mews, Maryborough Village, Portlaoise, pleaded guilty to obstructing Gardaí at her address on July 15 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said Gardai informed the accused that the house was to be searched under a drugs search warrant at 10.45pm on the date in question.
“She closed the door and locked it, obstructing the Gardaí,” said Sgt Kirby. He told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the woman had no previous convictions.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity. “She was trying to protect her children, it was very misguided,” she said. Ms Fitzpatrick asked the Judge to take account of the early plea and her lack of a previous conviction.
Judge Stephanie Coggans said she would apply the probation act in the case.
“When the guards come to do something they are to be facilitated not blocked,” she warned the woman.
