A woman admitted stealing over €300 worth of cosmetics from Shaws in Portlaoise.
Louise Collins (45) of 2 Harelawn Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, stole cosmetics valued at €311.97 from Shaws in Portlaoise on January 26, 2026.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant went into the shop, took the items and left without making any attempt to pay. He said the property wasn’t recovered and the defendant had no previous convictions.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client’s “finances are poor” and the woman had other business in Portlaoise that day.
She said her client had brought €200 to court but if given time could get the full compensation.
Judge Stephanie Coggans put the case back for a second call to allow the woman to get compensation. When the case was called again, the woman produced €320.
Ms Fitzpatrick asked the Judge to take into account her guilty plea and lack of prior convictions.
Judge Coggans ordered that the compensation be paid to the shop and she placed the woman on an 18 month probation supervision bond.
