A motorist allegedly driving under the influence of drugs was stopped in a vehicle that did not have tax for 3,742 days. Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle in Mountmellick after it pulled into a service station.
Gardaí say the driver quickly exited the car via the passenger side door which they believe was an attempt to avoid detection on a forecourt covered in CCTV cameras.
A check of the vehicle revealed an expired learner permit, no insurance, NCT or tax, which had been expired for 3,742 days.

Gardaí said the driver tested positive on a roadside drug test for cocaine, cannabis and benzodiazepines. They were subsequently arrested for intoxicated driving.
Court proceedings have commenced.
Commenting on the arrest, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Laois/Offaly said: “When drugs are involved, decision-making collapses. That’s why we test."
