Laois Gardaí say a driver who was arrested following a dangerous driving incident in Laois last summer has been jailed.

The incident occurred when a speeding driver travelled from Rathdowney to Donaghmore before being pursued by Gardaí from Shanboe to Ballybrophy on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The car turned and drove back towards Donaghmore when it was involved in a crash at Grantstown. Three occupants fled across fields and were later arrested.

“Thank you to the public for their assistance on this case. These incidents happened on the 1st June 2025. Recently the case was finalised before Midlands Circuit Court Laois when the driver was disqualified for a period of 10 years and received a 12 month term of imprisonment,” Gardaí said in an online post.

“We know we don't generally update on posts but with all the chatter online around road safety we strive everyday in Laois Offaly to ensure our roads are safe to use for all users. Thank you again,” Gardaí added.
