Man allegedly stole €13,475 in cash from two cars in Laois

A man appeared in court accused of ‘following people’ and stealing €13,475 in cash from car parks in Laois. 

Michael McDonald(55) of Ballyowen Lane, Lucan, Co Dublin is accused of stealing €10,000 in cash from a car park at Emo National School on November 13, 2025. He is also accused of stealing €3,475 in cash from the car park at Telfords, Portlaoise on December 19, 2025. 

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link where a barrister asked that the case be adjourned for two weeks. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said it was alleged the defendant  was driving around following people before stealing from them. He described it as a complex investigation. 

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the defendant in custody and adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court  on April 23 by video link.
