A man was fined for abusing hospital staff who asked him to wear a mask.
Karabo Radabe, 27, of 45 Cosby Avenue, Fairgreen, Portlaoise was accused of being drunk and abusive at Portlaoise Hospital on June 25 last.
The defendant was also charged with criminal damage at the Bamboo Gardens on Main Street in Portarlington where a perspex screen worth €100 was damaged on March 17, 2020.
Sgt JJ Kirby said at the hospital the accused was “asked to wear a mask and started abusing staff. Told them to f**k off.”
In Portarlington on March 17, 2020, the accused punched a perspex screen causing €100 damage, said Sgt Kirby.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client had no previous convictions.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €500 for being abusive to hospital staff. He took the public intoxication charge into consideration. A €400 fine was handed down for the incident in Portarlington.
