A man who stole toy cars while in Portlaoise for a court appearance has been fined.
Aleksandrs Fadejevs, 24, of 33 Belgard Green, Tallaght, Dublin 24 admitted taking two toy cars and a can of redbull from Tesco in Portlaoise on November 24 last.
Sgt JJ Kirby said the items were valued at €10 and the defendant has two previous convictions.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client “forgot that he put the items into his pocket” but the goods were recovered.
Ms Fitzpatrick said the man was in Portlaoise on court business as he had to pay compensation in order to finalise an assault case.
“It was actually before he came to court,” Ms Fitzpatrick revealed. She said her client works in construction and has no previous for theft.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €250 and gave him six months to pay.
