Garda warning after rise in thefts of garden equipment in Laois and Offaly

Laois-Offaly crime prevention officer Graham Kavanagh has issued advice to homeowners to deter theft of lawnmowers and ride-on mowers.

The advice comes after "a small number of such were items stolen from sheds and garages in different parts of Laois and Offaly" in recent weeks.

"Having looked at patterns it appears to be occurring overnight and determined criminality is involved."

"We need to work together to deter and catch these individuals."

Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Graham Kavanagh advises people "to consider chaining a number of items together and using a ground anchor."

"Consider a local alarm in the garage to alert you to an intrusion."

"Mark and photograph items, e.g use Eircode. Report all suspicious activity."
