A man who is accused of killing his wife appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Eugen Constantin (72) of 25 Church Street, Portlaoise is accused of murdering Adina Raluca Constantin at his address on July 5, 2026.

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link and technical difficulties meant he couldn’t be heard in the courtroom.

Judge Cody noted that a book of evidence was needed in the case.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said “our file is going to the DPP in the next couple of days and we are looking for a month and we are confident we will have directions and/or a book then.”

Solicitor Philip Meagher said to his client the prosecution wanted to adjourn the case for four weeks. The man nodded his head to confirm his consent. Mr Meagher said the man had been granted bail in the High Court but wasn’t in a position to take it up.

Judge Cody adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on September 28. He said the man would appear by video link on that date and be brought to Portlaoise District Court a week later for service of the book of evidence.
