A truck driver admitted using a fake no claims bonus certificate to get cheaper insurance,
Cosmin Diaconescu (38) of 3 Castle Avenue, Kilminchy, Portlaoise, appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of using a false instrument at his address on April 17 last year.
Judge Andrew Cody told the man there were no solicitors available due to the ongoing legal aid dispute.
“I was not looking for legal advice,” the man said as he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the man had taken out insurance with Axa and had used a fake no claims bonus certificate to get cheap insurance. He said the man had no previous convictions.
“When I arrived in Ireland, someone made the insurance for me and I paid for it. He said it was going to make the insurance cheaper,” the defendant said.
He told Judge Andrew Cody that he was working as a truck driver.
Judge Cody convicted the man and fined him €300 with three months to pay. “I will pay now, thank you,” the man said.
