Death Notices for Laois - Monday, January 9, 2023

Declan Bracken - Portlaoise

The death took place on Thursday, January 5 of Declan Bracken of London and late of Stradbally Rd, Portlaoise and Sydney, San Francisco, Fair Isle and Overton.

Unexpectedly. He is profoundly missed by his children Oisín, Orla and Jess and his wife Lisa, along with his daughter Naoimh. His passing is deeply regretted by his parents Tom and Nancy Bracken, Block Road, Portlaoise and his sisters Phil and Ann, brothers Enda, Sean, Kevin, Michael and Feargal, predeceased by his infant brother Vincent, along with his sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews and by his extended family across the globe.

Declan will be missed by his soul mates and dear friends from Portlaoise, the UK and beyond. Declan is also in the thoughts and prayers of his colleagues from the National Health Service, where he had dedicated so much of his energies to the health care and service of others, especially during the Covid pandemic.

Moira Mullen - The Rock

The death took place on Monday, January 9 of Moira Mullen (née Furlong) of The Rock, Mountmellick, and formerly Upper Boley, Shanahoe.

At the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her loving husband Kevin. Deeply regretted by her son Patrick, daughter Antoinette (Lawlor) daughter -in-law Christine, son-in-law Kevin, her beloved grandchildren, stepchildren and their families, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Reposing in Moloneys Funeral Home, Mountmellick on Tuesday from 4pm. Removal at 5.45pm to St.Joseph’s Church, Mountmellick arriving at 6pm. Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11am. Burial after in St Joseph's Cemetery.

The Mass will be live streamed on www.mountmellickparish.ie

Mary Maher - Portlaoise

The death took place on Sunday, January 8 of Mary Maher (née Allen) of Borris Road, Portlaoise and formerly of Eyne, Portlaoise.

Peacefully, in her own home. Predeceased by her father Peter Allen, brother Gerry Allen, uncle Johnny Allen, nephew Peter Tobin and sister in law Patricia Allen and her Mother in law Ellen Maher, brother in law John and sisters in law Eileen, Mary Anne and Peggy. Mary is survived by her loving husband Gerry, daughters Geraldine and Caitriona, son in law John, her 4 grandchildren and Caitriona's partner Padraig. Mary is also survived by her mother, Bridie, sisters Breda and Barbara and brothers Harry, Dan and John Allen, sisters and brother in laws, nieces and nephews.

James Kenny - Portarlington

The death took place on Monday, January 9 of James (Jimmy) Kenny of Stillorgan, Dublin and formerly Portarlington.

Peacefully, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Marion and loving father of Philip, Julie (Neale) and Lynn (Meagher). Sadly missed by his wife, son, daughters, sons-in-law Paul and Oisín, daughter-in-law Carolanne, his beloved grandchildren Andrew, Isabel, Rachel, Reuben, Joshua and Oscar, extended family, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service at 12 noon on Thursday, January 12th in St. Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan followed by cremation in Mount Jerome, Harolds Cross, Dublin 6W. 

Marion Edwards - Pike-of-Rushall

The death took place on Thursday, January 5 of Marion Edwards (née Treacy) of Lower Kimmage Road, Terenure, Dublin and formerly of Loran, Pike of Rushall.

In the care of the staff in Tallaght Hospital Dublin. Predeceased by her husband Reginald, brother Abraham, sisters Kathleen and Gladys. Deeply regretted by her sisters Annie and Martha, brothers William, Ted, Leeson and Herbert, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, best friend Angela, carers Christine and Dorothy and extended family and friends.

Funeral Service will take place in Annatrim Church, Coolrain (EirCode R32 YO60) on Tuesday (January 10th,) at 12 noon followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Dublin, arriving at 3 pm.

Patrick Delaney - Portlaoise and Borris-in-Ossory

The death took place on Wednesday, January 4 of Patrick (Pat) Delaney of Portlaoise and formerly of Main Street, Borris-in-Ossory.

Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth, brother John, sisters Mary and Anne. Deeply regretted by his loving brother Joe, sisters Betty and Josie, sisters in law, brother in law, nieces, nephews, extended family relatives neighbours and friends.

Rosary in Guilfoyle's Funeral Home, Castletown, Mountrath, this Monday evening (Jan. 9th.) at 8pm. Pat's Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday morning (Jan. 10th.) at 11am in St. Canice's Church Borris in Ossory, followed by interment in Derrinsallagh cemetery, Borris in Ossory.

Peter Kenna - Ballickmoyler

The death took place on Thursday, December 1 of Peter Kenna of Clonagh, Ballickmoyler.

Suddenly, at his residence in England. Sadly missed by his loving parents Brendan and Rose, son Luke, wife Trini, step-son Davy, step-daughter Brindi (deceased), sisters Julie, Roseanne, Grace, Martha, Mary and Bri, brother John, uncles, aunts, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and all his extended family and friends.

Funeral Mass in St. Abban’s Church, Killeen, R93 HK58, on Wednesday 11th January at 12pm and burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
