The death has taken place of the former Fine Gael Councillor, John Moran from Ballylinan.
Mr Moran’s passing on Tuesday, July 4 comes four years after he stepped down as a Councillor in 2019 after a time in public life spanning almost 30-years.
First elected in 1991, he initially represented the Luggacurran electoral area and, in latter times, the electoral district of Portarlington-Graiguecullen.
He served as Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council from 2007 to 2008.
He ran as a candidate for Fine Gael in the general election of 2011 alongside Charlie Flanagan.
Outside of politics he ran a successful tour and travel business.
He was also well known in farming circles through his involvement with the National Ploughing Association.
Predeceased by his wife Loretta and sister Anna and brother Jimmy he is deeply regretted by his children Aisling, Caragh, Georgina, Robert and Marc, brothers Billy, Michael and Larry, sisters Breda, Marian, Patricia, Noeleen, Collette and Eithne, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren , great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
