A Laois family and community are in shock and grief following the death of a father of five and grandad over the weekend.
Sean Geoghegan, of Coolbally, Clough, Ballacolla, Laois, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 2025, following a tragic accident.
Laois councillors offered sympathies to the family of Mr Geoghegan, at their monthly meeting on Monday, December 15.
Cllr John King paid tribute.
"Everybody would have known Sean from the Ballacolla area. He worked in the farming community and following an accident on Saturday, unfortunately he lost his life.
"A young man who should have been preparing for Christmas. A very sad time for the family," Cllr King said.
"He was a hard worker, a family man, and it's a terrible tragedy. A huge loss in the area," Cllr Ollie Clooney said.
Sean is predeceased by his father John and his brother James (Jimmy).
He is mourned by his devoted mother Breda, his heartbroken wife Barbara, children Hannah, Kevin, Jamie-Louise, Clodagh and Aaron, his grandson Rian, his nine brothers and sisters, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
The HSA has launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
"The Health and Safety Authority is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time," a spokesperson told the Leinster Express.

Funeral arrangements are not yet confirmed.
