A previous Laois mattress amnesty collection
Laois will have more free mattress and bulky waste collection days this summer, along with a new electrical repair shop and café, all to fight illegal dumping and environmental damage.
Last year a Laois mattress amnesty at Portlaoise Rugby Club took in almost 1,000 old unwanted mattresses and beds for free, all to be recycled.
For 2025 Laois County Council's environment team plans to expand on that, and hold an eco friendly repair shop and café for electrical items that otherwise could end up in the bin or the ditches.
It will also hold a bulky waste and mattress collection.
Senior official Georgina Ireland gave detail at the May council meeting.

"We have made an application for funding. Included is a repair shop café for small electric appliances, and a mattress and bulky waste amnesty.
"They will take place in late June or early July," Ms Ireland said.
