Charlie Hackett, Green Party
What are your priorities?
I will work with Laois County Council to deliver vibrant communities and a healthy environment. Measures such as traffic calming in towns and villages and introducing new segregated cycle lanes.
I want to introduce more green and biodiversity spaces in our towns and villages.
Every town and village has issues with vacancy and dereliction, I will work with Laois County Council to bring these sites back into use, be that homes, businesses or community spaces.
Improving the Animal Welfare Services provided by Laois County County is another priority that’s high up my list.
Finally, swift and full implementation of Laois’s Climate Action Plan is essential - and will put Co Laois on the right path, and will play a significant roles in future proofing communities for us all.
What is the biggest issue facing your area?
When I knock on doors - whether in Portarlington or Ballylynan, one of the main concerns of communities is the speed of traffic. They are frightened for their families and children, and it’s something I want to do something about. I know that this current government has plans to reduce speed on our roads. I will work with LCC to see this implemented. There’s active travel funding available too.
Why do you think you would make a good County Councillor?
I’m young and determined and want to bring a new vision to Laois. I will be a new voice for the environment and for communities, much needed for Laois. I’m not stuck in my ways, and I’m willing to listen and learn.
