A Laois town will hold a 'Gig for Gaza' fundraiser to raise funds for a mobile maternity unit in Gaza.

Over 36 hospitals have been bombed and reduced to rubble by Israeli forces, according to Aljazeera.

This event is ran by the Power of Words in association of Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and presents an evening of music and spoken word in Preston House, Abbeyleix.

The Gig for Gaza will take place on Thursday April 24 from 7:30pm to 11pm.

Musical Performances will take place from renowned artists Brian and Figs, Rachael Bonham, Beats Working, Amy Phelan, David Delaney, Jane Hogan, Car Park Sci- Fi! and Mairead Carroll.

Audiences can enjoy spoken words performances from Laura Murphy, John MacKenna, John Whelan, Siobhan Hoy, and Said Enaia.

The night will include words from special speaker Emily Durling Barrett, Chairperson of the Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign (LPSC).

The evening will also include a monster raffle, in a fundraising effort for a mobile maternity unit for Gaza.

According to the United Nations, an estimated 155,000 pregnant women and new mothers in Gaza face dire conditions, struggling to survive in tents and makeshift shelters, exposed to harsh weather and biting winds.

The campaign, titled 'Walk the Petition,' is designed to raise awareness of the Enactment of the Occupied Territories Bill.
