The Laois branch of Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (ISPC) have organised a rally this Saturday.

On Saturday June 21, the rally will meet in Portlaoise at Laois County Council Plaza at 1pm.

It will involve a short, peaceful circuit through Portlaoise town, returning to the plaza.

The rally will close with music, poetry and brief words from Palestinian voices, including singer songwriter Jimi Cullen.

"This will be a peaceful and family-friendly event," said Emily Barrett, Laois IPSC member and rally organiser.

"We warmly encourage groups and individuals to bring along homemade banners, signs, or any creative artwork that expresses your hopes for peace, solidarity, and justice.

"In these times of continued violence and hardship for the Palestinian people, your presence and voice can help shine a light on the urgent need for peace, dignity, and human rights," Ms Barrett said.

"This rally is NOT a political event, but a heartfelt expression of solidarity with the people of Palestine during their greatest time of need — a stand for humanity, compassion, and peace," she finished.

On Sunday, six Laois musical acts are giving their time free for the fundraising Gig For Gaza at the Anvil Inn, Portarlington.

Local artists Dopamine, Half The Truth, Copper Brereton, Bailey, The Electrix Unplugged and Peter Mac will take to the stage for the seven hour gig from 3pm to 10pm.

On Saturday morning, July 12 from 10am to 2pm, Laois IPSC will hold a Coffee Morning in Portlaoise Parish Centre. All proceeds of that will go to GAA Palestine.
