This Sunday July 22 sees the first major fundraiser for Portlaoise sportsman Mick Rigney, who is recovering from a serious stroke suffered last November.
More than 300 cyclists are expected to take part in a 110km round trip to Carlow, with a shorter 60km route also on offer. The cycle will be led off by Irish rugby legend Mick Galwey.
Both are billed as fun races, and will set off at 10am from Portlaoise Rugby Club. Registration costs €25, and is available from 9am.
The event is co-ordinated by Jimmy Keenan and Mick’s brother Des, whose cycling club Midlands Prison’s The Watchtower Cycling Club will be taking part, as well as Portlaoise’s Trilogy triathlon club.
Helmets compulsory, hot food and showers available at the club afterwards.
