Mountmellick United FC have organised the Mountmellick goes to Hollywood fundraiser, in the hopes of raising money for much needed developments of Smith's field and Conor Davis Park.

Last year planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of Smith’s Field into a multi-purpose community sports ground. This marked a significant step forward for the  club after years of dedication and planning by its committee.

The approved development includes a full-sized Astro-turf playing pitch, walking tracks, pathways, associated groundworks, and floodlighting.

The project will not only improve sporting facilities but also provide a crucial link between two sides of the town, making it easier for residents to navigate between The Harbour and the Tullamore Road.

The club has also recently submitted a planning application to replace an existing grass pitch with a new astro turf playing surface, new perimeter fencing to the pitch, new pitch lighting, including six 12 metre high posts and all associated site works at Conor Davis Park.

Over 60 locals will star in seven films, recently announced by the group. The films include Derry Girls, Father Ted, The Field, A Few Good Men, Waking Ned, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Bridesmaids.

"There are still a few roles left to be filled, so if anyone would like to get involved, please get in touch with us. It’s a great opportunity to be part of something fun and memorable for the community," organisers said.

"It was a great turnout with lots of laughs and plenty of excitement about what’s ahead. Stay Tuned! Make sure to follow along as we introduce our local stars over the coming days," they finished.
