Portlaoise's Mary Mulhare is set to be honoured at a Civic Reception and will receive the highest civic honour to mark her outstanding sporting achievements.

Mulhare, a teacher in St Mary's CBS, was part of the Irish Women's Senior Team who won bronze for Ireland in the senior women's 8000m at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Turin last December.

The reception had been proposed formally at the January meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District in a motion tabled by Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald. The Civic Reception will take place at Áras an Chontae on Thursday June 1 at 7.30pm.
