Captain Charlie crashes home late goal to help Camross claim U-13 'A' championship

The Laois U-13 ‘A’ hurling championship final between Camross and Ballinakill Ballypickas was decided by a really classy Charlie Peavoy goal for Camross in the second-half.

The eventual champions, Camross, were forced to play against a strong wind in the first half in Laois Hire O’Moore Park. That didn’t stop Aaron Bredin from opening the scoring for them though.

Camross 3-4

Ballinakill Ballypickas 1-7

Camross settled into this final the stronger and fired in the first of their four goals in the seventh minute. It was Aaron Bredin who added to his earlier point as well, as Bredin blasted home.

Ballinakill Ballypickas were slow to get motoring but Rian O’Dwyer eventually got them off the mark with a delightful point.

O’Dwyer added two points from placed balls to his earlier score to leave Ballinakill Ballypickas only a point behind.

Camross struck for goal number two though. Darragh Mortimer laid it off to Charlie Peavoy and he crashed home a deflected shot.

Ballinakill Ballypickas didn’t drop their heads though and hit back with a goal themselves. O’Dwyer added to his earlier three points by drilling home their first goal.

Aaron Brennan landed the last point of the first half for Ballinakill Ballypickas to leave the sides level at the break in Portlaoise.

Ryan Guilfoyle edged Camross back ahead upon the resumption and Aaron Bredin added another for them minutes later.

Ballinakill Ballypickas came close to responding with a goal. James O’Meara rattled an effort at goal, but it just went over the crossbar for only a point.

It was Ballinakill Ballypickas who managed to nudge ahead for the first time after that though. O’Dwyer dropped over two points from placed balls to edge them in front by the minimum.

However, Camross captain Charlie Peavoy then took it upon his shoulders to score the crucial goal. Peavoy raced through to plant home an unstoppable strike.

Darragh Mortimer pushed Camross three in front with a sublime score from out near the sideline and that proved enough to get Camross over the line.
