Man due in court after cocaine seized
A man, aged in 30s, who was arrested in connection with this investigation has been charged arising from the seizure of more than €8 m worth of cocaine in Laois, according to Gardaí.
Garda HQ has also confirmed that the accused is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning, Thursday, October 30 at 11am.
The court appearance is a follow-up from raid and search by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau at a house and lands in the Laois area on October 28.
The Leinster Express / Laois Live understands the search took place in the Ballacolla area of south Laois.
During the course of this operation, 116 kilos of suspected cocaine (subject to analysis) valued at approximately €8.1 million was recovered along with electronic devices.
Garda HQ said a man was arrested pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 and was detained, pursuant to the provisions of Section 50 of Criminal Justice Act 2007, at a Laois Garda Station.
Garda HQ added that the seizure is part of Operation Tara which aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, including the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
