Laois GAA coach Justin McNulty has landed back in his usual seat on the back bench beside SDLP group in the Northern Ireland Assembly near Belfast.

The Newry Armagh MLA has returned to the same seat he occupied on Saturday before his suspension brought about by his decision to get a helicopter to Wexford to coach the Laois senior Gaelic football team.

The Armagh man was pictured in the Storrmont Castle chamber at the same time as the SDLP Assembly leader Matthew O'Toole was speaking during proceedings on Tuesday, February 6.

Mr McNulty has also tabled a question about the future of the Casement Park GAA stadium in Belfast to the Minister for Communities on his first day despite his party insisting that being an SDLP MLA and the Laois GAA coach are not compatible.

The SDLP confirmed to the Leinster Express / Laois Live that the suspension status had not changed.

Mr McNulty, a former SDLP spokesman on reconciliation and sport, has yet to comment on his suspension. Laois GAA have also not explained why he could not have been excused from his duties on Saturday when Laois played Wexford.

Mr McNulty is a former All-Ireland-winning player with Armagh. He was appointed to his second spell in charge of Laois in October 2023 while the devolved Government in the North was suspended.
