Laois GAA unveil ambitious plans to build stand at Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise

The Laois GAA County Board has applied to Laois County Council for planning permission for a new spectator stand and terraced viewing area at the LOETB Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise.

The proposed development would see the construction of a stand with seating for 282 spectators, additional standing space along the rear wall, and a designated area for accessible viewing. Terraced areas are also planned for either side of the stand, running the full length of Pitch 01.

As part of the plans, two existing dugouts will be removed and relocated, while the current fence line will be repositioned to make way for the new structure. The existing floodlighting system is to remain unchanged. The LOETB Centre of Excellence, officially opened in 2019, is the headquarters of Laois GAA’s coaching and player development. Located on FR Browne Avenue in Portlaoise, the €3.5 million facility includes multiple floodlit pitches, a gym, meeting rooms, and high-performance training amenities. Developed in partnership with the Laois Offaly Education and Training Board, it is used by all county teams and is regarded as a cornerstone of the county’s sporting infrastructure.

The application can be inspected or purchased at the offices of Laois County Council during public opening hours. Submissions or observations can be made in writing within five weeks from the date the application is received, upon payment of the prescribed fee.
