One of Laois and Portlaoise GAA’s most decorated and respected figures, Cahir Healy, celebrated his wedding in style over the weekend as he tied the knot with Francesca in the stunning surroundings of Rome, Italy.

The ceremony was attended by close family and friends, with a strong Portlaoise GAA contingent travelling over to join in the celebrations. Among those who made the trip to Italy were some of Portlaoise’s most celebrated names, including Paul Cahillane, Tommy Fitzgerald, Cyril Duggan, Derek Delaney, Séamus ‘Cheddar’ Plunkett, Brian ‘Bruno’ McCormack, and Craig Rogers.

Healy announced his retirement from inter-county action in 2024, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career that spanned nearly two decades. A gifted dual player, he was a cornerstone of Portlaoise’s dominance in Laois football and played a crucial role in Laois’ 2007 Leinster U-21 Football Championship victory over Offaly.

Throughout his career, Healy was widely admired for his versatility, resilience and leadership. Even after suffering serious injuries, he made several notable comebacks, continuing to perform at the highest level. In recent seasons, he represented London GAA, where his commitment to the game remained as strong as ever.

Off the field, Healy has been a role model for younger players and a figure of immense respect across the GAA community. His sportsmanship and determination earned praise not only from teammates and coaches, but from opponents and supporters across the country.

The Rome wedding brought together many familiar faces from Portlaoise GAA, reflecting the high regard in which Healy is held within the club and beyond.
