Despite falling short in their All-Ireland Intermediate final clash with Tyrone, the Laois Ladies Footballers were part of a record-breaking TG4 Finals Day that once again showcased the growing popularity of women’s sport in Ireland.
Tyrone ran out 2-16 to 1-13 winners in the Intermediate decider at Croke Park on Sunday, August 3, but Laois’ presence on the biggest day in the ladies football calendar helped contribute to impressive audience figures and attendances.
Over 48,000 fans packed into Croke Park for the 2025 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championship Finals, the highest crowd since 2019, while TG4’s live, free-to-air coverage of the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior finals reached nearly 490,000 viewers worldwide.
Laois’ Intermediate final was watched by an average audience of 93,900, with TG4 also reporting a 37% increase in live streams across the three finals compared to 2024, and over 3.4 million views on their sports social media platforms throughout finals week.
The figures reflect a growing momentum behind Ladies Gaelic Football and the power of days like All-Ireland Final Day to bring communities together around their teams, both at home and abroad.
It was Dublin who claimed the Brendan Martin Cup in the Senior final, defeating Meath in a game that peaked at 5:43pm with 172,500 viewers tuning in as they closed out the win. Louth were also crowned Junior champions in the first game of the day.
The platform provided by TG4 continues to help raise the profile of female athletes, and Laois are back on that stage again this weekend, this time in Camogie.
The Laois Camogie team return to Croke Park this Sunday, August 10, as they take on Armagh in the All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Final. After coming agonisingly close to glory in 2024, they’ll be hoping to go one step further this time around.
