The Laois Shopping Centre Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final between Rathdowney-Errill and Colt-Shanahoe will have to be replayed after a ruling from the Laois GAA Competitions Control Committee (CCC).

The sides originally met last Friday evening in O’Keeffe Park, Borris-in-Ossory, where Rathdowney-Errill ran out convincing winners on the scoreboard, 2-22 to 1-15. Paddy Hassett starred for Rathdowney-Errill, hitting 2-8, including six frees, while Jacques Dowling added 0-5. For Colt-Shanahoe, Nathan Dunne (0-6, five frees) and James Keyes (0-5) kept the challenge alive, with Paudie McDonald’s goal briefly narrowing the margin. Hassett’s second goal late on looked to have sealed the result.

However, referee Patrick Phelan blew the final whistle in the 58th minute. Colt-Shanahoe lodged an official objection, and after a CCC hearing on Tuesday night, Laois GAA ruled that the match must be replayed in full this Sunday. A venue is yet to be confirmed.

Mountmellick await the winners in the last four with the semi-final down for decision in Trumera at 5pm on Saturday, September 20.
