There was a superb atmosphere at Rathdowney Golf Club on Thursday, April 24, as the club’s Senior Men turned out in force for Captain Terry Campion’s Prize Day. Scoring was exceptionally tight at the top of the leaderboard, with three players finishing on 38 points. Final placings were decided on countback, adding drama to an already exciting conclusion. The final results for Captain’s Prize Day at Rathdowney Golf Club saw Ollie Stapleton take first place with 38 points, winning on a back-three countback. Ed Carter finished second, also on 38 points, edging out Jim Delaney, who placed third, in a back-nine countback. Just one point behind were Liam Coady in fourth (37 points, back nine) and Sean Bolger in fifth (37 points). John Gorman claimed sixth place with 35 points on a back-nine tie-break, followed by Jim Kells in seventh on the same score. Paschal Ryan completed the top eight with 34 points, also winning on a back-nine countback. After the golf, members gathered for refreshments and prizegiving, where Captain Terry Campion expressed his gratitude to all those who played and helped run the event. It was a fitting way to cap off a successful year for the Senior Men’s section, and a proud moment for Campion, whose commitment and leadership were widely praised.
