A Laois Tirlán Farmlife store re-submitted a retention planning application following the rejection of an appeal by An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The retention planning application relates to the removal of a 22 metre long section of trees and hedges at the Tirlán Farmlife store in Graiguecullen on the Portlaoise Road in Carlow town.
Documents submitted with the new application confirm it was submitted on foot of the refusal of a previous planning application by An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The new documents say a number of alterations have been made to the previous application.
Notably, it said the signage which was in place on the new boundary fence has been removed and will no longer be provided. The proposed beech hedge to the front of the boundary fence will not be maintained at a height of about 1.2m but allowed to grow to a screening height of around 1.8m high and maintained at that height.
“These alterations will omit what may have been considered cluttered signage to the site boundary and will allow the beech hedge to screen the application site over time. This hedge will facilitate site screening whilst also eliminating the constraint on visibility to the left on exit of the site as was an issue with the excessively deep hedgerow previously in place,” the documents state.
The new plan which was lodged with Laois County Council seeks to: “Retain permission for the removal of existing trees and hedges to a 22.5m portion of the front boundary adjacent to entrance gate and replacement with a 2.7m high paladin fence, affixing safety and opening-hours signage along the front boundary fence and entrance gate, and erection of building signage onto existing structures within the site. 2) Planning permission for the provision of beech hedging to the external side of the front boundary paladin fence and all associated site works”.
Laois County Council is expected to make a decision on the application by March 24, 2026.
