Tress outside the Highfield Manor estate in Graiguecullen
Laois County Council will begin removing trees from a road in Graiguecullen in the coming weeks.
Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming asked the Council to consider removing the trees on the Crossneen Road in the interest of safety.
He tabled a motion asking “that Laois County Council look into removing the trees along the Crosneen Road Graiguecullen opposite Highfield Manor estate as they pose a safety risk to pedestrians and motorists.”
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan.
Cllr Fleming said the trees were planted a long time ago and have since become a hazard.
Senior Executive Engineer Tom Drennan said “Laois County Council have assessed this and determined their removal is necessary on road safety grounds. These are scheduled to be carried out over the coming weeks.”
The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
