Laois County Council will consider putting additional car parking spaces in two estates in Graiguecullen.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked in a motion “that Laois County Council put in 10 Car parking spaces in Barrow Vale and The Vale”.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan, said: “The Graiguecullen/Portarlington Municipal Districts roads office will carry out an assessment to determine its need and extent of any civil, drainage or utility requirements and have works costed. When cost estimates have been established this can be discussed with Cllr. Brennan on how these works may be funded.”

Cllr Brennan said there should have been adequate parking spaces when the houses were built.

The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Aisling Moran. She said there was a shortage of parking spaces in many estates.

“There is rows and everything in different places over parking spaces,” she said.

Cllr Moran said most houses would have two cars and some would have more with adult children living at home.

The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
