New medical centre opens its doors in Portlaoise

Lack of GP availability in growing Portlaoise prompts new facility
A new medical centre, aimed at tackling the lack of GP availability in the county, has opened its doors in Portlaoise.
Dr Maaz Seerat and Dr Zafar Ul Islam have opened Killeshin Medical Centre on the Dublin Road in the town.
Both doctors have trained and worked in Ireland. They felt there was an opportunity to create a modern practice where patients can receive continuity of care in a welcoming and professional environment.
This plan was backed by the fact that there are a lot of families who don’t have a GP or struggle to find one with the current GP practices already running at a maximum capacity.
“Portlaoise is a growing town, with new families and communities moving into the area all the time. We wanted to build something that would grow alongside the town and provide patients with a GP service they can rely on for years to come,” said Dr Maaz Seerat.

The practice will provide both GMS and private GP consultations. The doctors also hope to provide a broad range of services, including, but not limited to women's and men's health, chronic disease management, musculoskeletal care and other services traditionally delivered within general practice.
For Dr Zafar Ul Islam, the new practice is about more than simply opening another medical centre.
“We want patients to feel that they are being listened to and that their concerns matter. Our vision is to combine good clinical care with a friendly, accessible and modern service.”
The doctors see the practice as a long-term investment in Portlaoise and its community. They hope that as the practice grows, they will be able to expand their team and the range of services available to patients.
