Laois is among just four counties in Ireland that have not had a fatal road traffic crash so far this year.

Gardaí have confirmed that 70 people have died on Irish roads to date in 2024 – almost a third higher than the death toll for the same period last year.

Laois, Leitrim, Monaghan and Longford are the only counties to have not had someone die on the roads.

The highest number of road deaths were recorded in Cork, with 10 accidents.

Other counties with high fatality rates include Mayo (8), Dublin (7) and Kildare (5).
