Laois now accommodating almost 600 asylum seekers

The figures were provided to Roderic O'Gorman, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Almost 600 asylum seekers are being accommodated in Laois, according to the figures released by the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.


At the end of April 588 International Protection Applicants were being put up in Laois.


This compares to 365 in Offaly, Kildare (661),  Meath (909) and Carlow (418).


Nationally the number of international protection (IP) applicants in State-funded accommodation has reached 29,283.
