Eurogiant Portlaoise
A warning has been issued in relation to online scammers imitating the owners of a chain of stores including one in Portlaoise.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission(CCPC) issued the warning in relation to a fake website imitating EuroGiant.
“We’ve been alerted to a potential scam website impersonating EuroGiant and falsely claiming to offer “closing down” sale items. EuroGiant has no connection to this website, and consumers may be at risk of losing money or sharing personal information,” the CCPC warned.
EuroGiant remains in operation but its 77 stores went into liquidation earlier this month leading to concerns about the future jobs of its 640 employees nationwide and in Laois.
It appears unscrupulous scammers have now used that misfortune to target the store in an online scam.
“Please be aware that other variations of this web address may also exist, so stay vigilant and always double-check that you’re dealing with an official retailer. If you come across suspicious sites, report them to An Garda Síochána,” the CCPC stated on social media.

EuroGiant announced on its social media that its website was deactivated.
They posted a warning stating that: “We have been made aware of websites purporting to be associated with EuroGiant. Please note that these websites have no affiliation whatsoever with the EuroGiant brand.”
