Driving on flooded roads in Laois not easy for drivers.
Laois County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team is warning of the possibility of flooding.
The warning was issued due to the cumulative rainfall in recent weeks, the current Status Yellow rain warning and the forecasted rainfall for the next 24 to 36 hours.
According to Laois County Council, there are “saturated ground conditions and bank full river conditions throughout County Laois”.
“There is an ongoing risk of localised flooding across the road network in County Laois. Drivers are urged to drive in accordance with prevailing conditions and to not ignore road closure signage, where such signage is in place,” the Council stated.
They issued advice to property owners with specific mention of Portarlington and Portlaoise.
“Property owners in other areas vulnerable to flooding, including areas of Portarlington and Mountmellick, can monitor river levels on waterlevel.ie. In Portarlington and Mountmellick, the risk of flooding increases as water levels exceed the Median Annual Maxima Level. The Graph Reference Numbers, on waterlevel.ie, are 14005 (Portarlington) and 14121 (Mountmellick).
“Laois County Council crews, including Municipal District Area Staff, Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence Volunteers are on standby, with sand-bags and pumps at the ready, to assist where flood events emerge,” the Council stated.
