Court - Portlaoise drink driver's one year ban

A Portlaoise man has been fined €300 and put off the road for one year having been convicted of drink driving.

Before last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court was James Clancy (35), with an address at Hillview, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that the accused was stopped driving at Grattan Street, Portlaoise, on October 30 this year.

He was brought to Portlaoise Garda Station, where he returned a reading of 41mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

He had previous convictions.

The accused, who did not have a solicitor, told the court that he was not working.

Judge Catherine Staines convicted and fined the accused €300.

He was also disqualified from driving for one year.
