Rush hour checkpoint at one of Portlaoise's biggest estates

Garda on duty at entrance to estate morning school run and work commute

Morning checkpoint

Gardaí in Portlaoise were on duty early Tuesday morning manning a checkpoint at the entrance to one of Portlaoise's biggest housing estates.

A single garda vehicle checkpoint was on duty at the Kilminchy estate as cars exited. It is not clear if there was a specific reason for the stop or of it is a normal checkpoint for road tax, insurance, NCT and other motoring matters. It did not appear if drink driving was the primary reason.

There is only one main entry and exit to the estate which is located off the Dublin. The checkpoint had finished by 9.30am after the school run and work rush hour was over.
