Homeowner says someone will be killed following latest crash on Laois road

Nothing has been done. I had to put up a wall myself. A mass concrete wall for my own safety
Another worrying car crash has occurred along a stretch of road where a car ploughed into a garden sending concrete blocks crashing into a house in February.
The homeowner, who asked not to be named, says someone is going to be killed if action isn’t taken to improve road safety on the Tankardstown Barrowhouse Road near Athy.
He said the latest crash which occurred around 200 metres from his home knocked down a pole at around 10.30pm on Saturday night.
A more serious accident occurred at the property in February when a car crashed through a wall and into his garden. Fortunately, his children who often play outside in the garden, weren’t out there that day.
The issue was raised with Laois County Council but the homeowner says little has been done.
He has since taken some measures to improve safety but he remains fearful for the safety of his children who like to play in the garden of his house.
“Nothing has been done. I had to put up a wall myself. A mass concrete wall for my own safety,” he revealed.
“I had to go to that extent for the kids' safety. There needs to be a crash barrier put in. They(Council) put in two signs, slow down, that was all,” he said.
He said a car had crashed on the section of road close to his house at around 10.30pm but he didn’t know if anyone was hurt. There have been a number of crashes along the road in recent years including at the man’s house.
“Somebody is going to be killed,” he warned. He believes even a mass concrete wall won’t protect his home and worries that if a car flips in an accident it could end up in his property.
He reported the matter to Gardaí at Abbeyleix Garda Station.
