IN PICTURES: Laois man raises funds and runs Ultra Marathon to honour teammate and friend

A lovely gesture that will go a long way

Graiguecullen's Jamie Malone ran the Longford Ultra Marathon in August with a great cause in mind.

Malone wanted to remember Paddy Branagan, who passed away unexpectedly in May 2022 while working for Autolaunch in Alabama USA. Paddy was a father of Sonny and son of Mary and the late Seamus and he was the youngest of seven. Malone would have grown up with Paddy in Graiguecullen where they attended St Fiaccs primary school and Knockbeg secondary school together. They also played GAA together from a very young age.

"I wanted to honour my friend Paddy by attempting to raise money for the Kevin Bell Trust, a charity that helps bereaved families to bring home their loved ones if they die abroad. The way I went about raising funds was by completing the Longford Ultra Marathon (63km) back on August 27", Malone said.

The Graiguecullen native raised €13,095 for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. The cheque was presented to Colin Bell, father of Kevin Bell, on Friday, November 8. Tap NEXT or ARROW to see more photos.
