Laois Pool Association set for All-Ireland festival

Laois Pool Association set for All-Ireland festival

It's that time of year again, the Irish Pool All-Ireland's are upon us.

The event is held again this year in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney from the 15th to the 19th of May. Laois pool has its strongest representation to date with six teams competing, 3 men's teams, two Over 50's and an U-23 team.

Laois Pool is getting stronger every year with a number of Laois players playing at international level, notably Sonny Flanagan, Tom Bagnal and Dick Carr who were on the Irish team that won the European championships this year. Also playing at international level are Paul Gilnagh, Martin Dunne and Ger Sheehy.

Laois currently has 73 players county-wide playing in the rankings to make the county teams. We hold eight ranking events throughout the year in the Hawthorn Ballacolla, events run over a weekend with players accumulating points as they go.

Last year our two teams got to the quarter-finals in their divisions at the All-Ireland festival, this year they hope to push further on and hopefully bring home some silverware.

A big thank you to all our players and a special thanks to our committee who dedicate so much time throughout the year. Also, if anyone anyone would like to get involved with Laois pool please contact any committee member, names can be found on the Facebook page.

Best of luck to all players heading to Killarney, the teams are:
