Laois County Council has given loans to seven Laois homebuyers since a new national low interest mortgage scheme opened for business last February.
Rebuilding Ireland Home Loans is a Government-backed loan scheme administered by Laois and other local authorities, for first time buyers who have been refused a loan by banks and other lenders.
By late April in Laois, seven applications had been approved, and three declined.
“A further 15 applications are under consideration,” reports the council’s housing department.
On its introduction, Housing Officer Michael Rainey described the loan scheme as “a last resort” for home buyers and expected “considerable interest” in it.
