Final tally in Laois local election from the Portlaoise area

Fine Gael stalwart surgest ahead with Fine Gael seat at risk

Laois County Council elections

The final Fianna Fáil tally from the Laois County Council elections for Portlaoise shows Fine Gael incumbent Willie Aird  topping the poll.  

All but 5 out of 40 boxes were tallied from the Portlaoise Municipal District. The missing boxes from the tally were in urban Portlaoise in the Knockmay area.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • Willie Aird, Fine Gael, 1389, 14% 
  • Caroline Dwane Stanley, Sinn Féin, 1171, 12% 
  • John Joe Fennelly, Fianna Fáil, 1099, 11%
  • Catherine Fitzgerald, Fianna Fáil, 898, 9%
  • Tommy Mulligan, Non-party, 822, 8%
  • Barry Walsh, Fine Gael, 823, 8%
  • Naeem Iqbal, Fianna Fáil, 651, 6%
  • Marie Tuohy, Labour Party, 513, 5%
  • Thomasina Connell, Fine Gael, 450, 4%
  • Pauline Flanagan, Non-Party, 301, 3%
  • Bolaji Adeyanju, Non-party, 299, 3%
  • Dom Dunne, Non-party, 282, 3%
  • Maria McCormack, Sinn Féin, 245, 2%
  • Donal Kelly, Non-party, 201, 2%
  • Rosie Palmer, Green Party, 261, 3%
  • Noel Burke, Non-party, 251, 2%
  • Collette Byrne, Independent Ireland, 213, 2%
  • Martha Ryan, Aontú, 140, 1%
  • Jason Phelan, Sinn Féin, 115, 1%
  • John Cowhig, Non-party, 47, 0%

A total of 20 candidates are vying for seven seats in the Portlaoise Municipal District.

The votes were sorted at the CBS / Scoil Chriost Ri sports hall in Portlaoise. They will be counted at the Kea Lew business park from Saturday evening.
