Gardaí confirm death in Thurles crash in which Laois man died

Garda HQ has appealed for help as part of an investigation into a fatal crash in Tipperary in which a young Laois man died.

A statement revealed the time and location of the accident in the appeal.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal single-vehicle road traffic incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, March 2 at College Green in Thurles, Co.Tipperary 
 
"The collision, involving a car, occurred at approximately 3:15am. A man, aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene by paramedics, but was later pronounced deceased.
 
"His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick. A post-mortem will take place in due course.

"There were two other people in the car at the time but no other injuries have been reported," said the statement.

While a technical examination of the scene is underway by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, Gardaí also issued an appeal to anyone who has information, who may have witnessed the incident or who may have video footage (including dash-cam), to contact them.

The deceased, who was aged in his early 20s, is understood to be a native of Mountrath in Laois and was a student in Thurles. He was well known in GAA circles as an emerging hurling talent.
