Ballyroan’s bins are set to be refurbished after the good work of the Tidy Towns was discussed at a council meeting.
Cllr Barry Walsh requested the bin repairs in a motion at the latest meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
The Fine Gael Councillor asked "that Laois County Council repair all damaged rubbish bins within Ballyroan village including a new bin on the new footpath to the G.A.A. Grounds"
In response, Senior Executive Engineer Wes Wilkinson said repair work would be carried out to damage old bins and a new bin would be installed.
“The Portlaoise Municipal District Roads Office will make arrangements to repair all damaged rubbish bins within Ballyroan village including a new bin on the new footpath to the G.A.A. Grounds," Mr Wilkinson said.
Cllr Walsh explained that there was a very good Community Employment Scheme in the village.
“A number of the bins are old or damaged and I would just like to see them repaired or replaced,” he said.
“Tidy Towns have mentioned that people are making an effort to gather rubbish up and dog litter and stuff like that but because of this new footpath we could do with a bin there just to allow people somewhere to put that rubbish,” said Cllr Walsh.
“There is a concerted effort within the village just to keep the place tidy,” he explained.
