Gardai targeted speeding motorists in a Laois town at the weekend.
The speed checks resulted in a number of tickets being issued and saw one motorist caught driving at almost double the speed limit.
“Mountrath Gardaí conducted a speed check on the Rushin Road in response to local complaints of excessive speed on the road. There were five detections for speeding offences the highest of which was 99 kilometres per hour in the 50 kilometres per hour zone,” Gardai said.
“Mountrath Gardaí will be continuing to monitor speeds in and around the town and would like to ask the public to please slow down and be careful,” Gardai added.
“Fixed charged penalty notices have been issued for each offence which incurs three penalty points and a €160 fine,” they remarked.
