Laois County Council has been given approval to purchase 20 new houses in Laois.
The mix of two and three bedroom houses will be located on Shannon Street in Mountrath.
Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sean Fleming welcomed the approval.
“The announcement of these new homes is part of the Government’s ambitious Housing for All plan and Laois County Council’s excellent programme for delivering homes in the county,” he said.
“These houses will be built by a private builder and they will be purchased by Laois County Council when they are completed under the turnkey method. There will be a mix of two bedroom and three bedroom houses in this development,” said Minister Fleming.
“This is good news for County Laois and people with a housing need in the area. I look forward to the completion of these homes and families moving into them.
Hundreds of new houses will be completed in 2023 and 2024 through funding provided by the government to Laois County Council and approved housing bodies in the county” he said.
Minister Fleming said government is ramping up the supply of houses.
“I will ensure that much more homes are built in Laois within the next two years,” he said.
