Two Laois children set great example by raising vital funds that will go to help staff at Portlaoise hospital care for sick children.
The Friends of Portlaoise Hospital were delighted to accept the almost €180 raised by Seán and Róise Tynan thanks to their great initiative at Cemetery Sunday to set up a lemonade stand in aid of the Paediatric Unit at Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise (MRHP).
The Friends say Seán and Róise organised the stand in early, assisted by their mam Sinéad. Friends and neighbours in the area also helped them to serve the drinks while their granny and grandaunt ensured they were well stocked.
Seán and Róise handed out drinks to passersby attending the mass in return for a donation to the Friends of Portlaoise Hospital, a local charity established in 1991, with their mission being to enhance patients’ comforts at MRHP. If people were thirsty and had no money, they still received a drink to help cool them down on what was a very hot day at the Stradbally Road cemetery. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

Tom Timmons (Chairperson of the Friends of Portlaoise Hospital) said praised the children.
"It's fantastic to see the younger generation like Seán and Róise getting involved and donating their time to raise money for local charities like the Friends. We rely solely on the generous donations from the public. The weather was fantastic for Cemetery Sunday and kids really used their initiative to fundraise from this.
"Our committee would like to say a big thank you to Seán, Róise, the kids who volunteered and all who donated to this fundraiser. The funds will be a fantastic help to our hospital,” he said.
