LAOIS MOTORING: BMW showcase their i5 and EV range

I wrote recently about the introduction of the new BMW 5 Series but today we got to see the EV version called the i5 and we got much more detail of the model line-up to come.

The BMW 5 Series was first launched back in late 1972, fifty years ago! It is one of the most important new models in the BMW line up and to date they have sold more than 10 million units worldwide so its a car they cannot get wrong.

The new range will launch here in October, with three simplified trim levels, M Performance, M Sport Pro and M Sport with a choice of petrol plug in hybrid, and diesel as well as the all new i5 EV.

The 520i kicks off at €69,950 while entry to the electric 5 Series starts with the i5 eDrive40 which is priced at €90,110.

To simplify configuration of your new 5 Series BMW have also introduced a new set of options packs such as Technology Pack €2,461, a Comfort Pack €2,092, a Technology Plus Pack at €4,062 and a Comfort Plus pack €4,616.

Should you really wish to bust the seams in your wallet you can also option the car with the Ultimate Pack costing €15,017 which includes a host of goodies too numerous to list here, but safe to say you will want for nothing more!

Brief drives in the new iX1 as well as the iX, i7 and cute new Mini EV reaffirmed the fact that BMW have really got it just right with these cars. Allied to the upgraded “MY BMW” app the interaction between driver and car is closer than ever. EV ranges are better too with the new i5 claiming up to 572 km and a 30 min fast charge from 10 to 80%.
